Do you Digg it?
Sun, Nov 9, 2008
I am trying something new and different. I am wondering what would happen if people actually visited my site? Would they really click the revenue generating ads? Would they buy things from the product links? Can I ever get ahead of the cost of hosting? Let’s try something together, Digg SolidWorker! What will come of it? If it turns out that you really like me, I will return the favor by making more and better videos! Thanks people.

Am I wasting my efforts? Do you people even know what digg is?

I just want to say please continue to make your videos. They have been an invaluable tool as I learn solidworks. I have watched each of them several times and pick up new things each time. Thank you for what you do.

I’m an (older(45)) CAD student in a two year degree program. 1 year into it now and we are still doing 2D with AutoCAD. I am BORED out of my mind with AutoCAD. I learned more Today from these few Tutorials than I have from MANY other Tutorials. Your methods and practical approach make this program come alive! Than you VERY much for the time and Instruction. How could anyone NOT DIGG IT! I am sending all my buddy’s here. I wish there were more Tutorials. My wife keeps screeming turn that **** down. LOL Thank you Sir.

You’re one of the rare video tut guys out there who can actually teach and at the same time make it entertaining.
You need to keep doing what your doing! I think people would be prepared to pay a reasonable fee or click on ads to help you out.
Just be open and upfront about the whole thing (including how much providing it costs you to run everything) and your users will respect you and support you.
Here is an example of someone doing the same thing as you, (who also happens to be a good teacher) who is making money decent money doing tute vids online.

I read somewhere that he quit his day job.. anyway, check out his site and the services he provides.. contact him, he’s a pretty open guy, i’m sure he could give you tips about how to make it economically viable for you.
GO FOR IT!! We all need you to!
I’ve got a massive solidworks training series that my boss bought me, but every time i put it on, I wanna hang myself and jump out of a window at the same time. It is soo DULL & BORING and JUST WON’T GET TO THE POINT!
DO THIS PLEASEEEE!!! If not for you, do it for the kids, cute puppies and elderly women trying to cross the street!

The chances of Digg doing you any good are remote IMHO. Throw up a paypal contribute link and I will send along my $10. I agree with the sentiment repeatedly expressed above. Most people can share knowledge but very few are effective TEACHERS. This is amply demonstrated by the fact that I watch one of your videos to learn about its subject and end up learning a few extra things every time.
Could you guys assemble either a best practices video, or perhaps a separate list of best practices? I feel as if I am wasting so much time doing everything the hard way.

I agree with Geno, set up paypal and I’ll gladly send you a subscriber / tutorial fee to help with your time and expenses.

very good indeed
when there is so much trash blogging out there its great to find a bunch of worthwhile tutorials like these.
you really ought to make a paid job of these somehow though cos you have a rare talent for it.
take up the offer above for free hosting
I think your site will become very popupar

hey i just donated.
but here’s an idea.
make all the videos on ur site have no pause button.. and then to get that feature, u have to donate $1USD per movie and u get full access to the download the whole movie and download any support files for it as well.
I think most people who come on here and would be willing to pay are people in the industry who are in a bind and need a quick fix. When that deadline is quickly approaching, a few $ doesn’t seem like that much for piece of mind.
what does everyone think? ps. this will probably only work when u get heaps more viewers right? So start making more crap and forget that pause button

solidworker.com is fantastic. I have been using SolidWorks since 1997 and thanks to you, am finally breaking away from continually using the same commands, expanding knowledge and creating better, more efficient, complex yet very robust models.
Are you planning videos covering surfacing tailored toward consumer products for the more advanced users? Great job!
Thank you,
Greg

I have been using Solidworks for about a year and a half now. This is the first time I went to your site. After viewing just a couple of your videos I’ve picked up on a number of techniques. Keep put the great work, your videos are a great help.

I just put SolidWorker.com on reddit.com, which in my opinion is way better than Digg.
