Hey,
This tutorial is exactly what I was looking for to model some threaded rod. I have a question though, when I try to make the sweep, there is no ghost preview and the operation "cannot be completed."

I checked the profile with a revolve and that worked just fine. I tried remaking the helix both inside the rod and outside but it just didn't work. Do you know what might help?

Thanks so much!

Really impressive tutorials, thanks. As a software engineer getting into mechanical design as a hobby, I especially appreciate your focus on "design best practice," e.g. your discussion of the different ways to keep the threads from intruding into the inside of the bottle. Keep up the great work!

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE YOUR INSTRUCTION! Easy to understand and follow...Thanks a million. I do have a question: I am trying to learn surfacing...doing projects like Ultra Downy & Tide bottles...Where the varying surfaces change. Do you have any examples or would you please be able to give me some help?
Thanks again,

Bram,
I believe I know what you are describing. Could modeling a small segment of tread with lead-in and out (perhaps just an 1/8th of a revolution) and then replicating this bump around the neck with a curve driven pattern along a helix produce the effect you are looking for?

Dear Tim,

Once again I've enjoyed this fine tutorial. I was wondering: in some bottlecaps you see a thread broken down in smaller "lanes". What is the best way to construct such a thing?

Good luck on your site, outstanding quality of tutorials! I've bookmarked it.
